Do You Know the Daily Routine Management of Siberian Husky Sled Dogs?

Keep the environment clean:

Environmental hygiene includes the breeding grounds, kennels, feeding utensils, and the body of the dog.

1. The hygiene of the kennel The kennel is the place where the Husky lives. If the hygiene conditions are not good, in addition to causing the Husky’s body to become dirty and affect its appearance, more importantly, various bacteria and parasites can proliferate, thereby transmitting diseases to the dog. For various items used in the kennel such as bedding, cages (or baskets) and the ground, it is necessary to disinfect at least once a week. In winter, the interval can be longer. Using bleach can eliminate most bacteria and parasites; using a 5% sodium hydroxide solution can kill viruses such as canine distemper. When using disinfectants, avoid using highly toxic drugs to prevent the dog from poisoning after sweet food; if the disinfectant has a strong irritating smell, the dog may hide in another room. The kennel should have good ventilation and sunlight exposure. In warm weather, open the windows and doors of the kennel to ventilate and let in sunlight.

2. Keep the appropriate temperature and humidity, especially for puppies, as they have a low tolerance for temperature changes and are prone to respiratory diseases in places with large temperature fluctuations. Even for adult dogs, the temperature should be controlled at 15°C or above in winter and 24°C or below in summer. For dogs with long hair, a sweater can be considered for outdoor activities in winter, and it should be removed upon returning home. For dogs with long hair, the doghouse can be placed in a north-facing room in summer or artificial cooling measures such as fans and air conditioners can be taken. For dogs living in an air-conditioned environment, the air conditioner should be turned off before going for a walk and not turned on immediately upon returning, to prevent catching a cold. The humidity in the doghouse should be maintained at 50-60%. If the humidity is too high in summer, the dog may suffer from heatstroke; if it is too low, the dog may catch a cold and suffer from digestive system and skeletal discomfort. If the humidity is too low, the air will be dry, which is not good for the respiratory system and may cause dryness in the mouth and eyes.

3. Utensils should be regularly disinfected. Feeding and drinking utensils should be washed daily and disinfected weekly. The sanitation standard should be the same as that for humans.

Maintain good canine hygiene:

Maintaining good canine hygiene can not only eliminate parasites but also keep a visually appealing appearance.

Proper exercise:

Dogs are active animals who need daily outdoor exercise. Running can help build their bodies, and they can also absorb ultraviolet rays from the sun, which improves calcium absorption. Additionally, ultraviolet rays can kill bacteria and repel parasites.

1. properly manage the amount of exercise. The amount of exercise for a dog depends on its body size. Larger dogs require more exercise, while smaller dogs require less. Generally, the exercise can be controlled within a range of 2-15 minutes of running and 20-40 minutes of walking.

2. when taking your dog out for exercise, you should put a leash on it. This will prevent it from attacking people or animals, and prevent it from crossing the road and causing a traffic accident. When you meet other dogs while taking a walk, don’t let them have too much contact, to prevent them from being bitten or infected with diseases.

3. it is advisable to change the route of exercise regularly, and do not let the dog move only along the same fixed route every day. During exercise, it should be prevented from using its nose to sniff the excrement left by other dogs or other objects, and should not be allowed to come into contact with them. It is also advisable not to put the dog in places where people or other dogs gather, in order to prevent the spread of some diseases. Fourth, without disturbing the dog, a toy or a towel twisted into a stick can be used to tease and play with the dog, thus enhancing its flexibility. After returning from exercise, it is advisable to give the dog enough clean water to drink, comb its hair with a brush and a damp towel, clean up dirt and saliva left by other dogs or by the dog itself, in order to prevent diseases from the outside world. If one’s own dog has had physical contact with other dogs and it is suspected that the other dog is sick based on its fur color and appearance, it is advisable to disinfect one’s own dog appropriately.
